Fall in the UK: the HolidayCottageCompare.com pick of places to see Autumn colours

Ah the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness! The poet John Keats wasn’t alone in appreciating just how beautiful autumn can be in the UK.

Whilst many of us may be familiar with the legendary fall colours of New England in the US, there are some absolutely magnificent displays to see here in the UK.

So why not grab your wellies and head out this October to explore some of these places for yourself?

Here are some of our favourite picks:

Westonbirt Arboretum, Gloucestershire

The National Arboretum, Westonbirt is home to the UK’s finest tree collection and understandably one of the most popular places to visit in the Cotswolds.

Autumn is an especially good time to explore Westonbirt’s 15,000 trees on this 600 acre site – and they have even marked out two great seasonal walks so you don’t miss a thing…

Pitlochry, Scotland

Scotland is simply one of the most stunning places to see autumnal colours – miles and miles of unbelievable scenery uninterrupted by buildings and people!

Pitlochry, in the heart of Scotland, offers a particularly good display and even has its own Enchanted Forest event every year with music set against an illuminated woodland backdrop.

Castell Coch, Wales

This 19th Century High Gothic revival castle in South Wales is surrounded by copper beech trees which turn to fantastic reds and golds come October.

A Site of Special Scientific Interest, the woods contain rare plants species and along with the fascinating castle itself, are well worth a visit.
