Christmas has already landed as far as retail is concerned. And it won’t be long before we snuggle up in front of the log burner for yet another airing of the popular 2006 rom-com film ‘The Holiday,’ starring Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz and Jude Law.

Breaking news: the cottage in The Holiday is fake!

Yep, we’re sorry to break it to you but the cottage in The Holiday is fake. Fake news.

Apparently, the front was built as a façade in the middle of a field over the course of two weeks (you can actually see this on the DVD’s special features section!)

And the interior sets were built on a sound stage at a cost of $1million. Which goes some way to explaining why it looked so gorgeous!

Filming for the English village scenes actually took place in Shere and Godalming, in Surrey – during which time it unexpectedly snowed for real three times. Nevertheless the directors still hired in snow machines so that poor Cameron Diaz could drag her suitcase for miles through the drifts - in those heels!
