Finding a holiday cottage with disabled access best suited to your needs
Back to latest postsFinding for the perfect holiday can take time. After all, there are so many things to consider, such as which dates everyone can make, what part of the UK you want to visit and what the maximum budget should be. And that’s before you’ve given any thought to hot tubs, scenic views and coffee machines!
But what if those requirements are the least of your worries? And if first and foremost, you have to find a cottage that is suitably equipped for your needs - before you can even consider all the rest?
Such are the challenges facing holiday makers searching for cottages with disabled access.
Which is why Holiday Cottage Compare has thought hard about how we can best help make the whole process of finding an accessible holiday cottage as easy as possible.
What is the definition of a holiday cottage with disabled access?
Holiday cottages that are tagged as offering disabled access can, in reality, comprise a wide range of features from having widened doors to accommodate wheelchairs, to including wet rooms with grabs rails and a hoist. And very much more in between.
All our properties are tagged as offering disabled access by the advertiser themselves, rather than Holiday Cottage Compare.
Which is why it is particularly important to check each property listing in detail before you book. And if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
Do you have disabled access cottages with a wet room or walk in shower?
Yes we do! We have a good range of disabled access holiday cottages with wet rooms.
Which means you can access the bathroom and shower with ease, safe in the knowledge that the whole area is tanked, to prevent any moisture causing lasting damage to the room.
Or if you prefer, we also have holiday cottages with disabled access, which feature a walk in shower. These showers do not have doors and are therefore easier to access. They do however have shower sides and a no step, low profile shower tray, which prevent water from covering the rest of the room.
Lastly, there’s a category for disabled shower, which means you should find features such as grab rails, shower seats and maybe even a hoist.
I’m just looking for a holiday cottage with a downstairs bedroom and bathroom
Of course you might not need a fully accessible cottage but there may still be someone in your party with limited mobility. Perhaps you’re planning to go away with elderly relatives who use a walking frame and need to stay on one level.
Or someone in your party is recovering from surgery and would otherwise struggle to go upstairs to bed?
Or maybe you have small children and would like the reassurance of knowing they’re sleeping on the same floor as you in the evening?
Whatever your reasons, our collection of holiday cottages with downstairs bedrooms and bathrooms can offer great reassurance that the property you book will be accessible to everyone in your group.
Can you help me book a hoist or adjustable bed?
Whilst some of our disabled access properties come with a hoist and an orthopaedic bed, not every cottage will necessarily have everything you might need on site.
And so, where possible, we would be more than happy to help you liaise with the owner to accommodate hiring in any specialist equipment for your week away.
Please contact us with details of your requirements and we will do our best to help.
How can I find other features with my disabled access holiday rental?
We aim to make it as easy as possible for you to find the perfect holiday cottage.
So you might prefer to start by looking at all our cottages with disabled access and then narrowing them down by location, date or price.
Or you can set location, date or price at the outset and then narrow down your choice by the tag ‘disabled access’.
We have literally hundreds of tags for our properties, ranging from type of property e.g. bungalow, chalet or stately home. As well as feature such as wet rooms, disabled shower or walk in shower.
And then there’s other important features such as Wi-Fi, log burner and TV. Or you might rate coffee machine and wine fridge as more important! It’s entirely up to you.
Simply add the tags you like and the number of properties with those features will be automatically displayed in your search results.
