3 big reasons to visit the Kent coastBack to latest posts
Thinking of renting a large holiday cottage at some point in the next twelve months?
Then you might want to consider these three incredible options on the Kent coast, all very different but each one reason enough to come and explore more of this scenic part of the English Channel.
Why the Kent coast is a great location to rent a large holiday cottage
Whether you are looking for a large holiday rental over Christmas and New Year or somewhere that sleeps 8 or more people to host a family get together or friends’ reunion, the Kent coastline has a huge amount to offer holiday makers.
Known affectionately as ‘The Garden of England’, Kent’s location on the English Channel brings with it one of the most perfect climates in the UK, which explains its many hops fields and apple orchards.
Kent has ten of the best beaches in the world
Kent’s coastal location also means that it offers some of the best beaches in the UK.
In fact, ten of them, including Tankerton, Margate Main Sands and Botany Bay were so good they won coveted Blue Flag status in 2019.
Which means that holidaymakers visiting them can be assured a clean, safe beach with great facilities and water quality.

So where can you find some of the best cottages sleeping 8 or more people in Kent? We take a look at three of the best!
1. Downs Cottage in Kingsdown, Kent
Kingsdown is a village just south of Walmer and Deal, right on the Kent coastline and features immense chalk cliffs and a long shingle beach.
And Downs Cottage in Kingdown has to be one of the most stylish – and quirkiest – houses to rent in the area, complete with spectacular and far reaching sea views.
Sleeping 11 people in 4 large double bedrooms and one bunk room, this recently restored, architect designed beach house can be found on Wellington Parade in Kingsdown.
Step inside and you will be wowed by the interior décor; opulent golds and luxurious teals; flat screen TV and a stylish, glass fronted, dual aspect log burner. Perfect for an autumnal or winter break.
The well equipped kitchen features a huge breakfast bar with seating so your guests can enjoy a glass of wine and a catch up whilst dinner is prepared.
Head upstairs and the Art Deco touches abound, with lavish, individually designed bedrooms, roll tops baths and a family bathroom to stop you in your tracks!
You may need to leave the kids to fight it out over who gets which bed in the quirky, child friendly bunk room – we’re betting the winner will take the top!
Other features of Downs Cottage include a sauna. Prices start from £2,500 for a 7 night stay. Short breaks are also available.
2. Bowden Lodge in Kingsdown, Kent
Bowden Lodge in Kingsdown is one of those houses that ticks all the boxes for exactly the kind of place you would want to book for a big get together.
This huge barn conversion is located in the south of Kingsdown, right on the edge of the South Foreland Heritage Coast – a truly scenic part of this wonderful area.
The house itself is just a short walk from the beach, complete with beach huts, fresh seafood and towering white cliffs.
But once you see the Bowden Lodge, you may decide to stay put! The grounds are extensive and perfect for the kids to explore. That’s if you can get them out of the large, private outdoor swimming pool!
There’s also a BBQ for al fresco dining in the summertime. And if the weather is less favourable, a games room will keep the whole family entertained, with a game of pool or a relaxing movie.
Step further inside the house itself and you will find plenty of room for 12 people, with large, open plan spaces, decorated with a keen eye to detail and luxury.
A huge well equipped kitchen offers plenty of seating as does the large lounge area, ideal for relaxing after a day out exploring.
The house comprises five double bedrooms plus one twin bedroom, one of which is located on the ground floor and most of which come with ensuite bathrooms.
Both child friendly and pet friendly, Bowden Lodge is the perfect large holiday cottage escape. Sleeping 12, prices start from £1,900 per week. Short breaks are also available.
