A visit to Aldeburgh isn’t complete without a walk along the beach and a visit to ‘The Scallop’, a monument by local sculptor Maggi Hambling to commemorate Benjamin Britten who used to take walks along the beach. Inscribed on the 13-foot sculpture are the words “I hear those voices that will not be drowned” from his famous work, Peter Grimes.

The Aldeburgh Martello Tower is the largest chain of towers built to keep out Napoleon. There are a total of eighteen towers built along the coastline, so take time to explore the history of the architecture.
