Brancaster is a village on the north coast of Norfolk. It is halfway between Hunstanton and Wells-next-to-the-sea, two very popular choices for seaside getaways.

Whilst the neighbouring villages are more well-known, Brancaster boasts beautiful beaches and has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. A stroll along the coastal path makes it easy to see why.

Things to see on holiday in Brancaster

Brancaster wasn’t designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for nothing. Its natural beauty will take your breath away so get outdoors and start exploring.

Brancaster beach is the perfect visit for summer sandcastles or winter walks. The size of the beach means that there is room to find your own space even on the busiest of days. What’s more, the beach is also dog friendly.

There are a number of recommended walks that take visitors around the village and surrounding areas. The Brancaster Straithe circular walk is good one for heading to higher ground in Barrow Common to enjoy stunning views before walking alongside the creeks of Brancaster Marsh.

Whilst there is plenty to see in Brancaster, whilst in Norfolk, most visitors will want to explore other villages nearby. Found in-between Hunstanton and Wells-next-to-the-Sea, Brancaster is just a twenty-minute drive from both destinations making them both an easily accessible day out. Brancaster really is a hub for the north of Norfolk and makes getting around to other locations simple.

Things to do on holiday in Brancaster

Brancaster is a working fishing village and you can get a taste for the locals work whilst you’re there too! Fishing trips are available from Brancaster through summer meaning you can enjoy the excitement of open water and views of the coastline. 

Apart from building sandcastles on Brancaster Beach, there is plenty to do on the beach. Kite surfing is a particularly popular pastime. Kitesurfing uses the energy of the wind by moving his power kite in certain directions whilst stood on a surf board. There are certain areas of the beach that are out of bounds for kite surfing so be sure to check the map. Beginner and experienced kite surfers are welcomed, so strap up!

Brancaster Staithe has a beautiful harbour that visitors can try other water sports on such as kayaking. If water sports aren’t your thing, head to Scolt Head Island to spot some seals or to the salt marshes for bird life. Once you’ve finished, a pit stop at one (or both) of the two great pubs: The White Horse and The Jolly Sailors is a must.
