Why go on holiday to Bruern?

Bruern is a hamlet in the Oxfordshire Cotswolds, between Chipping Norton, Stow-on-the-Wold and Burford. The Cotswolds stretch over six counties and is a rural section of England that encompasses winding hills, sweeping meadows, golden villages with thatch-roofed cottages and historic stately homes and ancient mansions.

Stretching over 800 square miles, the Cotswolds is the largest of the 38 Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty in England and Wales. With so much beauty to see, the Cotswolds is a large beast to tackle and Bruern is ideally located to explore all the best parts the area has the offer.

The Cotswolds is filled with so many quaint villages, manor houses and gardens and scenic walking routes, that it’s difficult to fit it all in. Here are some of the best nearby villages to visit in the Cotswolds:

Villages don’t come prettier than Bourton-on-the-Water. Dubbed the ‘Venice of the Cotswolds’, charming small bridges cross over the gently flowing River Windrush that flows around the 17th and 18th century houses. Bourton-on-the-Water is just a seven-mile drive from Bruern.

Once you’ve finished exploring the quaint village, take a mile long walk between Lower and Upper Slaughter, just north of Bourton-on-the-Water. The mile walk runs alongside the River Eye and bears witness to cottages, stone footbridges, watermills and village greens.

South of Bruern is Burford. Burford has remained much of its Tudor and Georgian characteristics with little changing over the centuries. This makes the village one of the most picturesque towns in England. Burford’s famous High Street is one of the Cotswolds most famous sights and even houses England’s oldest pharmacy, dating back to 1734.
