Cotswolds holiday cottages

Why go on holiday to The Cotswolds?

The sleeping beauty of south central England, The Cotswolds, lays over Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire, as well as parts of Wiltshire, Somerset, Worcestershire and Warwickshire. This huge area, of so many different parts, is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful places in England. With a holiday cottage in the Cotswolds, you will find the best nature has to offer, dotted with towns full of classic and interesting buildings, that seem as natural as the trees, hills and valleys.

In 1966, before these modern, technological times, the area was designated an “Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty” by the United Kingdom’s government, and it is the largest of the 46. Because of this, the region’s beauty is maintained, as a pure, quiet and peaceful place where visitors from all over the world go to have a relaxing holiday.

Things to do on holiday in The Cotswolds

Exploring the Cotswolds on foot can include both gentle, stile-free strolls as well as  hardcore hikes, meaning both wheelchair users and hiking pole users will be more than well catered for. Of the many walks around The Cotswolds, which together combine thousands of miles, the Cotswold Way National Trail is perhaps the most popular. It is a 102-mile adventure passing historic monuments and many of the beautiful villages, all over the region’s breath-taking landscape.

And if, after a hard day of exploring, you fancy relaxing over a coffee or locally brewed beer, then the local towns including Chipping Norton, Dursley and Malmesbury are all worth a visit. These towns feature buildings made from the local “Cotswold stone”, a light-yellow limestone that gives the area a unique look and feel. Larger urban areas nearby include Bath, Cheltenham, Gloucester and Swindon and offer a faster paced day out near The Cotswolds.

For families looking for a fun day out with the kids, there is a water park for those who enjoy getting wet and wild, or the Wildlife Park & Gardens for fans of animals and nature. Budding historians will enjoy the ancient Roman Baths, a step back in time to please all ages. Other favourites include Westonbirt Arboretum, Blenheim Palace and Tewkesbury Abbey.
