Dartmouth holiday cottages

Why book a holiday cottage in Dartmouth?

Located on the banks of the picturesque River Dart, the town of Dartmouth, in the English county of Devon, is the perfect year-round holiday destination for weekend breaks and long stays.

If you’re looking for stunning scenery, interesting exhibitions and delicious food, a visit to this wonderful destination should be on your wish list.

And to make life easier when you’re booking your next trip to Dartmouth, we’ve put all our Dartmouth holiday cottages in one place so you can find the perfect rental property for you and your family.

What to do on holiday in Dartmouth

With water sports, sandy beaches and beautiful historic streets to explore, there’s so much to see and do in Dartmouth.

Take a trip back in time at Dartmouth Castle, a 600 year old fortress nestled on the banks of the Dart Estuary. Or grab your nets and go crabbing in the bustling harbour (just don’t forget to throw them back in!).

If you’re after big thrills the whole family will love, don’t miss Woodlands Family Theme Park — the largest theme park in Devon. Here you’ll find rollercoasters, soft play stations and a zoo farm where the little ones can make new animal friends.

And you can’t leave Dartmouth without exploring the coast, which you can do by kayak; the Greenland Ferry or Dartmouth Paddle Steamer — or why not try all three?

Family friendly activities in Dartmouth

If you and the children love animals, Pennywell Farm makes for a lovely day out. From cuddles with the miniature pigs to bottle feeding orphan lambs, the farm is fun and educational and allows the little ones to make memories that will last forever.

And if the weather’s less than perfect, head inside Dartmouth Museum, which occupies part of the historic Butterwalk — a terrace of rich merchants’ houses built around 1640. Here you’ll discover artefacts, models, paintings and photographs relating to Dartmouth, as well as a unique WWII film shown in a WWII replica air raid shelter.

Pet-friendly places to visit in Dartmouth

With plenty of pet-friendly holiday cottages to choose from, Dartmouth is a wonderful place for you and your dog to explore.

Dogs are more than welcome all year-round on Castle Cove, a small sand and shingle beach that offers beautiful views of Dartmouth Castle and out to sea. Sugary Cove next door is also dog-friendly, offering a remote, quiet place for you and your pooch to take a dip.

There are a range of restaurants that are happy to accept dogs, including Bayards Cove Inn and Cafe Alf Resco, which serves up the finest breakfast in town.

For ramblers and hikers, try one of the many challenging walks while stretching your legs and seeing all that the area has to offer. The 9 mile Dart Valley Trail is one of our favourites, following the wooded banks of the river Dart while offering inspiring views of the town.

For a shorter walk with smaller dogs, try The Community Orchard; a relaxed, gentle amble that offers plenty of space to roam.
