An oast, oast house or hop kiln is a building designed for kilning (drying) hops as part of the beer brewing process.
Built from the early nineteenth century onwards, oast houses can be found in most hop-growing (and former hop-growing) areas, especially in South East England.
Many oasts have since been converted into houses, making them perfect – and quirky- holiday cottage accommodation!
