Thatched roof holiday cottages
Thatching is the ancient craft of building a roof with dry vegetation such as water reed, straw, rushes, sedge or heather, using methods traditionally passed down from generation to generation.
It takes between 2 to 4 years to become a thatcher capable of undertaking the simplest roof and there are currently approximately 1,000 full-time thatchers at work in the UK.
Thanks to a renewed interest in preserving historic buildings and using more sustainable building materials, thatching is becoming popular again.
And if you would like to explore one of these beautiful buildings in more detail, we have several here for you to choose from.
