Yorkshire holiday cottages

Why go on holiday to Yorkshire?
At half the size of Belgium, Yorkshire is a large beast to tackle! Residents of the UK’s largest county are notoriously proud of their heritage, but what makes Yorkshire so great? A deep history, beautiful landscapes, major UK cities, vast coastlines and a diverse culture are just some of the reasons people visit Yorkshire every year.
Although all of the above will help you to enjoy your stay in Yorkshire, perhaps what will leave the biggest mark on you is just how nice the locals are. Their friendliness and ability to make you feel right at home will make it even harder for you to leave!
Things to do on holiday in Yorkshire
From quintessential villages to vibrant cities, and imposing cliffs and rocky coves to wild and rural moors, Yorkshire offers diversity.
Your Yorkshire holiday could be on the coast where you can feel the sand between your toes or inland where you have the Peak District and the moors. Wherever you’re based, you’ll never be far from castles and historic sites.
If you like to stretch your legs and get outdoors on holiday, the Yorkshire Dales is the place for you. The National Park has stunning scenery, castles, valleys, abbeys and an incredibly peaceful atmosphere that you can explore on bike, horseback or on foot. More experienced walkers might be tempted to embark on Yorkshire’s Three Peaks in the Yorkshire Dales. The walk takes on three of the highest summits in the area: Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough.
We all need a bit of retail therapy every now and again. If you like to tie in a day or two of your holiday to hit the shops, in Yorkshire you’ll find it easy. With Leeds, York and Sheffield all housing extensive retail areas a designer outlet in York, you’ll need an extra pair of hands to carry all of your bags.
Things to see on holiday in Yorkshire
Being the largest county in the UK, there’s a lot to take in. In North Yorkshire you will experience a rural charm and is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts. Comparatively, South Yorkshire is a thriving cultural hub for sport, music and heritage.
The Yorkshire coastline is a varied 45 mile landscape of rocky coastline and contrasting seaside towns of Scarborough, Bridlington and Whitby.
You’ll do well to fit it all into your trip but some things we recommended you try to see during your trip include York Minister, the largest medieval castle in northern Europe; Castle Howard, a grand stately home; and Whitby Abbey, scenic ruined abbeys.
