Location

The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.

The ancient fishing port of Whitby lies at the mouth of the River Esk and is well placed for exploring this wonderful part of Yorkshire, with its dramatic coastline and the magnificent North York Moors. Whitby is an atmospheric town and Bram Stoker found inspiration for his classic gothic novel 'Dracula' here. The spectacular cliff top 13th Century Abbey dominates the town and is well worth visiting. Whitby developed as a fishing port in the middle ages and the history of the fishing industry can be charted in the town museum. There are a variety of shops and eateries in Whitby and other attractions in the area can be found close by, from fishing to walking one of the many trails. Whitby makes a fabulous holiday base.
