Location

From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain’s best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.

The village of Dalmally, on the road between Tyndrum and Oban in Argyll and Bute, probably began life as a settlement to provide for the nearby Kilchurn Castle, established in the mid 15th century by the 1st Lord of Glenorchy, Sir Colin Campbell. Through many generations, the Campbells vied with the earls of Argyll for dominance in this region and the castle was only abandoned in the 18th century. The modern village of Dalmally has a shop, Post Office and a hotel as well as Glenorchy parish church, with its octagonal design. There's also a nine hole parkland golf course, set just behind the village and Loch Awe, offering a very scenic and peaceful place to practice your swing. The renowned Gaelic poet Duncan Ben MacIntyre was born in the area, and a walk up forested hills brings you to his monument, as well as spectacular views of Loch Awe and the surrounding mountains. Its location makes the village an ideal base for touring the spectacular scenery nearby.
