Location

From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain's best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.

Jedburgh nestles in the Jed Water Valley. Locally known as "Jethart", the town plays host to a wealth of historical and architectural sites of interest, such as the Piper's House in Duck Row and the 16th Century Canongate Bridge. Jethart Snails, a brown, mint-flavoured sweet in the shape of a snail, are a local delicacy; they are said to have been introduced to the town by Napoleonic prisoners of war. There is a lively calendar of local events throughout the year, including the Jethart Callant's Festival and The Royal British Legion Pipe Band and Jedforest Instrumental Band concerts. Jedburgh's Abbey is widely recognised as one of the country's most spectacular ancient monuments. It was founded as a priory in 1138 by King David I and is now in the care of Historic Scotland. Among the items on display there are the beautiful Jedburgh Comb, beautifully carved in ivory and which dates to around 1100 and a series of early Christian carvings.
