Rye House is located close to the historic town of Rye in East Sussex, a delightful photogenic place with a uniquely unhurried atmosphere. Its cobbled streets and beautifully preserved historic houses from Medieval, Tudor and Georgian times are easily discovered on foot.
The best place to get your bearings for exploring Rye is the Heritage Centre on Strand Quay were 700 years of the towns eventful past is brought to life through a sound and light display centered on a beautifully crafted town model. Once Rye has been investigated, a trip to Camber Castle can be recommended which was one of Henry VIIIs defence forts later made obsolete.
For wine enthusiasts, Chapel Down Vineyard is well worth a visit where local wine can be sampled and bought or enjoyed within the Richard Phillips restaurant. Further afield there are the interesting historic towns of Hastings and Battle. The Old Town in Hastings is a popular historic section with numerous traditional pubs with a vibrant music scene; the day can be rounded off with fish and chips on the seafront.
