Fronhaul holiday cottage is located on the edge of the scenic village of Devil’s Bridge, less than a 10 minute walk to the cafe and pub. It is also just a 6 minute walk to the Vale of Rheidol station and this famous steam train will take you on a scenic, relaxing journey to the coast at Aberystwyth. Aberystwyth is a lively university town with a stunning beach and promenade, a wide range of shops, pubs, restaurants, supermarkets and other amenities.
The Devil’s Bridge area offers some spectacular landscapes and scenery, as featured on Hinterland / Y Gwyll; a ground-breaking, dual-language detective drama set against the stunning backdrop of west Wales. The village of Devil’s Bridge (Welsh: Pont ar Fynach, literally translating to The Bridge on the Mynach) has been a popular tourist attraction for centuries. Mynach translates to Munk and is a tributary of the river Rheidol.
The bridge is unusual in that there are three separate bridges built upon each other. The most recent is an iron bridge (1901), which was built over a stone bridge (1753), which, according to the legend, was built by the Devil, as it was too difficult for mortals to build. The bridge is at a point where the River Mynach drops 90 metres (300ft) in 5 steps down a steep and narrow ravine before it meets the River Rheidol. The set of stone steps leading down to the lowest bridge at the waterfall are known as Jacob's Ladder.
Nant yr Arian Visitor Centre, one of the premier Mountain Biking centres in Wales, is a 10 minute drive, where you can also watch the red kites being fed. Numerous walks and cycle trails start from Devil’s Bridge and there are deep underground tours, fishing and a wind farm all within 6 miles.
There are famous attractions and landmarks in every direction and the The Silver and Lead Mines at Llywernog (4.7 miles), Elan Valley (15 miles), Rhaeadr (18 miles) and Tregaron (14 miles) all offer great days out.
