Location
From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?
Situated in excellent walking country is the idyllic Wensleydale village of Aysgarth, close to the well-known Aysgarth Falls and impressive Bolton Castle – a structure which dates back to 1379. For over 200 years, people have been flocking to see the beautiful falls - including Ruskin, Turner and Wordsworth. However, during the 19th Century, Aysgarth became a staging post for travellers to make their way down to view the falls from the bridge. In more recent years, the Upper Falls were used in the film ‘Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves.' The ancient art of coppicing is still carried out in nearby Freeholder's Wood and visitors can find hazel, ash and wild cherry trees amongst others. Carpeted in wildflowers in spring, this stunning woodland is home to over one 120 species. Nearby, Wensleydale and Swaledale provide a range of activities and amenities and are well worth visiting.
