Location
The ultimate in "year-round" appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales.
Situated on the borders of North West Derbyshire and Cheshire is the small town of New Mills, forming part of the Derbyshire Peak District. Although the settlement dates back to the 13th Century, the late 20th Century saw the Torrs Riverside Park, often called 'the park under the town' - come into being as a place for recreation and relaxation. To promote tourism in the area, the New Mills Heritage Centre was opened and visitors can enjoy this as well as The Torrs Millennium Walkway, a much-admired bridge set deep within the gorge. Just five miles away is Chapel en le Frith - the Capital of the Peaks - that boasts a cobbled market place complete with historic old stocks. The spa town of Buxton is within easy driving distance and is famous not only for its therapeutic spring water but also for its Pavillion Gardens and splendid Victorian Opera House.
