It offers easy access to rivers, lakes, mountain walks and a dedicated cycle/walking path along the Mawddach Estuary, all the way to the coast. From the doorstep of your accommodation Dolgellau offers a range of scenic walks, interesting shops, pubs, cafes and excellent restaurants.

Several gift shops are located in the town square area or very close by, stocking a range of items and craft ware by renowned Welsh designers/artists. There is also a range of other shops including a couple of bakers, butcher, several café’s, hardware, clothing, hairdressers, 2 supermarkets a Post Office and a Tourist Information Centre.

Amongst the best places to eat in the area is Y Meirionnydd, just a 2 minute walk from the cottage. This contemporary restaurant specialises in delicious menus using local produce. Other recommended restaurants in town include Y Sospan (traditional menu with a good choice to suit most palates) and Dylanwad Da, a popular Bistro with a regularly changing menu and a wide selection of wines. Just 2 miles outside the town you also have Bwyty Mawddach with amazing views of Cader Idris and the Mawddach Estuary. This restaurant boasts an award winning Chef specialising in fresh seasonal local produce. Back to walking distance from your accommodation Dolgellau also has several pubs including The Unicorn with pub food, real ales and Sky TV.

There’s a great selection of attractions in the area. First of all, Dolgellau is set on the foothill of Cader Idris, the second most popular mountain in Wales for climbers and walkers. The Mawddach Trail (as seen on the BBC’s Railway Walks with Julia Bradbury) is another must and the estuary views and the Blue Flag beach of Barmouth at the other end certainly makes this walk / bike ride worth the effort.

Coed Y Brenin’s internationally renowned Mountain Bike Centre and Go Ape centre is also within a 10 minute drive. It offers beautiful scenic forest trails for walking and biking of all abilities and an interesting visitor centre with a very good café. If you’re looking for a unique experience, head towards Porthmadog for some Llama Trekking and Junior Quad biking.
