Situated between the impressive Manod and Moelwyn mountains near the centre of Snowdonia National Park is the charming village of Manod. Once the capital of slate quarrying and known as the ‘City of Slate’ in the 18th Century, the town of Blaenau Ffestiniog is just one and a half miles away and makes for an interesting place to visit. With a good variety of shops, pubs and restaurants, this charming settlement is situated in an elevated, natural bowl amongst the local mountains and is best known for its renowned Llechwedd Slate Cavern, hydroelectric power station and famous narrow gauge Ffestiniog Railway. There are also a number of walking and cycling trails through the incredible surrounding countryside, as well as the National Mountain Centre at Plas y Brenin and a number of wonderful sandy beaches, great golf courses and renowned white-water rafting opportunities.
