Location

This is the East Wing of the Castle and a section of Castle House that shares a private courtyard and garden area with one other small apartment. This is a unique opportunity to stay in an historic castle. Dating back to the 11th century, this is the first recorded Welsh masonry castle and has had many famous battles. The castle is also central to Welsh history and was attacked and taken by the Welsh and Normans in turn several times each. Former owners include Lord Rhys who in 1176 put on an elaborate festival that was the forerunner to the Eisteddfod - a festival that still takes place to this day. In addition to staying within a castle, you can also visit many others locally, including Cilgerran only 3 miles away.

Cardigan is a market town on the banks of the river Teifi (a famous salmon river) and was once a key trading port and had a huge herring fishing fleet. The river meets the sea at Poppit sands and this is a great spot for dolphin watching from the shore. Cardigan has plenty of places to eat out and plenty of local and boutique shops.

7 miles inland is Cenarth - a gorgoeus little village with the famous Cenarth falls. Local fisherman used traditional corracle boats to fish in the river. You can see these in the museuem here and even have a go yourself on the river.

Family attractions in Cardigan include the Cardigan Island Coastal Farm Park. There are many land animals on show but also you can see many of the coastal wildlife including the harbour porpoises, seals, and dolpins. There is also an indoor section with activities for all the family.

Dyfed Shirehorse Farm is a great outdoor and indoor activity centre and is only 6 miles away. Other great family attarctions include Folly Farm and Oakwood Theme Park, both around half an hour away.
