Location
From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?
Situated in the Yorkshire Dales National Park between Leyburn and Hawes is the pretty and ancient Wensleydale village of West Witton. This traditional settlement is composed of stone built cottages and farmhouses and enjoys dramatic views of Penhill and its limestone scars along with Bolton Castle, lush rolling countryside and the surrounding fells. The village boasts two excellent pubs, one of which – The Wensleydale Heifer – won the 2006/07 AA award for 'England's best seafood pub'. There is also a well-stocked shop and a pretty village green. The ruins of Castle Bolton are visible from the village whilst the towns of Leyburn and Middleham are also close by, the latter boasting a Norman Castle, famous racing stables and pretty old market square. Also within easy driving distance are the picturesque Aysgarth Falls.
