The village of Egton in the heart of the North York Moors has charming sandstone cottages and is famous for the annual Agricultural and Gooseberry shows that are held in August. The villages of Egton and Egton Bridge have four public houses between them, as well as a shop and garage. Egton Bridge is regarded as one of Yorkshire’s loveliest villages and is situated on the River Esk in a steep sided valley. The church of St Hedda is famous for its murals, and there are some beautiful walks to be found at Arnecliffe Woods and the Old Mill and stepping stones on the Esk are worth exploring. Whitby, with its many attractions is seven miles away and offers a variety of shops, restaurants and public houses.
