Location

Dane Cottage is located on the edge of a picturesque Sussex village. With plenty of things to do in the local area your holiday will be full of fun. If you like the outdoors, there are many good walks to discover with footpaths taking you through some lovely woods and meadows.

A little further away is The Ashdown Forest, home of Winnie the Pooh, where you can visit Pooh Bridge for a pooh sticks challenge or walk to The Lone Pine or Eeyore's Lonely Place. Just up the road is the Bluebell Railway, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2010, running from Sheffield Park to East Grinstead, a great trip for old and young alike. They house the largest number of steam engines in the UK outside The National Railway Museum.

Drusilla’s is a great place to take children, with lots of animals and activities, it can keep everyone busy for a whole day. If you are a water sports enthusiast, Ardingly Reservoir is only 20 minutes’ drive away, where boats, canoes and windsurfers can be hired. They run 5 day children’s sailing courses all through the summer. There is even a chance to learn or improve your shooting, clay-pigeon shooting is run by Northall Shooting School, 10 minutes by car away.

Lewes is a wonderful place to visit, with independent shops and a castle and museum, there is plenty to do. Lunch at Bills is very enjoyable, in a lovely setting near the river. From here you can catch a train to Firle and make a day of it, walking back to Lewes along the South Downs.

A visit to Brighton is a must. It’s a very interesting town with great shopping facilities. Wander through The Lanes long renowned for its antiques and individual shops, admire the architecture such as the wonderful Brighton Pavilion, walk along the Front and onto the Pier and visit its antique shops and cafes. Lewes (15 minutes) and Rye (30 minutes) are well worth visiting.

For those interested in castles, nearby Kent has a larger selection than any other county in England for you to enjoy during your stay at this luxury holiday cottage. There are wonderful Sussex gardens to visit too, such as Nymans, Sheffield Park and Wakehurst Place. The National Trust properties, Standen, Batemans and Scotney Castle are also well worth a visit. With racing at Plumpton and Lingfield, many guests have enjoyed a fun day out having a ‘flutter’.

This large holiday home in Sussex is a truly stunning house dating back to 1550 and situated on the outskirts of Danehill in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. With panoramic views south west over the Weald, on a clear day the Jack and Jill Windmills can be seen on the horizon of the South Downs over 20 miles away. Sitting outside on a warm summer’s evening, you can watch the sun go down and totally relax away from traffic noise and light pollution. On a clear night the stars twinkle in the night sky and you can pick out constellations – a treat for anyone who lives in a city. The rooms of this unique holiday home in Sussex make the most of the wonderful oak beams found throughout the house. Impressive windows in the vaulted hallway invite the natural sunlight to flood into the house. The layout has been especially designed with a fabulous kitchen on one side, balanced with a reception rooms on the other.

Dane Cottage has large comfortable sofas surrounding the amazing inglenook fireplace in the huge L shaped sitting room, the perfect place to sit and relax on a winters evening with a glass of wine. For the warmer summer days the French doors open up fully and invite the sunlight into the room. There is plenty of seating outside for relaxing, watching children play and enjoying the amazing views.

It is an impressive house and has a very spacious open plan kitchen. A large oak table at one end makes the space very sociable – with a beautiful balcony, when the windows are open, you almost feel as though you are in the garden! The kitchen is ideal for cooking with family and friends, the Aga keeps is cosy in winter and is perfect for catering for large groups. Interesting artwork in every room, even the kitchen!

The garden is laid to lawn with well stocked with a wonderful rock enclosed swimming pool. There is plenty of seating near the house and by the pool. There is parking for several cars in the driveway with an in and out drive. Perfect for a wedding venue!
