Location

The ultimate in "year-round" appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales.

Situated within the Peak District National Park, the conservation village of Winster is an extremely pretty place with a 17th Century market house at its centre and a number of imposing 18th Century buildings located along its three main streets - Main Street, East Bank and West Bank. Equally as fascinating are the many little alleyways or 'ginnels' which lead from Main Street into the rest of the town. The village is famous for its Morris dancers, Wakes festivities - which take place every June - and its annual Shrove Tuesday pancake race. Within the village there is a well-stocked grocer's shop, a post office and gift shop as well as two pubs - both serving food and local traditional beers. The towns of Bakewell, Chatsworth and Matlock are all within easy driving distance and, for keen walkers, the village lies within five miles of the Tissington and High Peaks trails and The Limestone Way.
